A Southwark-based community and schools performance project.

Shakespeare’s Globe has taken the difficult but responsible decision to close our doors to the public until further notice, ceasing performances, education activities and tours.

As you can imagine, this has been one of the hardest decisions we have had to make, but a necessary one as we consider the safety and well-being of both the public, staff and volunteers.

We hope to open the doors to our wooden O as soon as possible – but in this unprecedented time for theatre, and as a charity that receives no annual government subsidy, we are in desperate need of donations to help us to continue to strive in the future.

We ask at this time of huge risk to our beloved theatre that you donate if you can. Any amount, large or small, will be hugely appreciated.

With love, solidarity and thanks to you all from the whole Globe family.

If   when we meet again, why, we shall smile

Thanks to the help and support of The Harris Foundation for Lifelong Learning we are delighted to announce that Our Theatre will once again be taking place in 2020.

Our Theatre is a Southwark-based community and schools performance project. Each year Globe Education Practitioners work with a range of groups in their school or community setting. Each group then brings one act of the play to the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse in a final ensemble performance for friends and family in July 2020.

The project is free to participating groups and is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for members of the Southwark community. Our Theatre offers those who might not have worked with Shakespeare’s text in performance an incredible experience to work alongside industry professionals and perform in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse and for their respective communities in their own venue.

The chosen play for Our Theatre 2020 is Macbeth
