Exploring Shakespeare and Violence
Do you bite your thumb at us sir?
— Romeo and Juliet, Act I, scene 1
From biting thumbs, to cutting hands, to street brawls to organised murder and ‘civilised’ duelling, Shakespeare uses various violent expressions to propel his characters into extreme emotional rollercoasters of self-discovery.
Join Fight Director Yarit Dor to explore Shakespeare’s writings of violent interactions. We will look at specific scenes and introduce contemporary rehearsal practices and tools to support safe exploration.
This is a Stage Two Studio class. This means that the session will be taught on the assumption that all participants have some knowledge of performance in the Globe Theatre. If you have not had previous experience of working or training in the Globe, we recommend that you take part in a Stage One class before booking onto this class.
There will be a maximum of 12 participants in this intensive two hour class.
