Large Group Coaching: Hamlet
This event has now passed.
Visit our What's On to see our current and upcoming events.
This hour long session for actors focusses on a single speech from Hamlet, introduced by James Garnon who played this part in our 2018 production, with support from our movement and voice faculty.
The speech you will be exploring is
Oh, my offence is rank, it smells to heaven
– Claudius, Hamlet, Act III, Scene 3, lines 36-72
This online session will start with James Garnon putting the speech into the context of the play, and in its performance context at the Globe.
He will then demonstrate his approaches to working with the text. Following that, one of our movement practitioners will demonstrate some physical approaches that can be used to unlock the meaning within the speech. Finally, the same speech will be worked by one of our voice practitioners, who will suggest appropriate vocal choices that can be used to access the character and enhance the story being told.
By working with the text, the body and the voice you really will be harnessing the full storytelling potential shared by players at the Globe.
This is an online session for up to 50 participants. It is not an interactive session, your microphones will be muted, but there will be some practical elements. If you would like individual feedback on your presentation of the speech after this session, please do consider booking onto one our Small Group Coaching sessions after the event.
Please note this session is open to all and not limited to a ‘traditional’ casting of Claudius.
