Much Ado About Nothing 2020

Shakespeare’s Globe has taken the difficult but responsible decision to close our doors to the public until further notice, ceasing performances, education activities and tours.

As you can imagine, this has been one of the hardest decisions we have had to make, but a necessary one as we consider the safety and well-being of both the public, staff and volunteers.

We hope to open the doors to our wooden O as soon as possible – but in this unprecedented time for theatre, and as a charity that receives no annual government subsidy, we are in desperate need of donations to help us to continue to strive in the future.

We ask at this time of huge risk to our beloved theatre that you donate if you can. Any amount, large or small, will be hugely appreciated.

With love, solidarity and thanks to you all from the whole Globe family.

If   when we meet again, why, we shall smile

The war is over. And there’s a new life waiting. Champions of the battlefield are reunited with those they left at home. For Claudio there is Hero and they can’t take their eyes off each other. Then there’s Benedick and Beatrice who can’t stand to be in the same room together.

The possibilities of what the future could hold now seem endless, and hopeful and bright. What could it take for the new world of peace to be threatened?

This heartfelt and vibrant show asks how you heal after trauma, how to give yourself over to the vulnerabilities love, and how to have the courage to return to the thrill of the everyday.

When I said I would die a bachelor, I did not think I should live till I were married.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING STORY

Claudio loves Hero and Hero Claudio and nothing seems capable of tearing them apart. Claudio’s friend Benedick loves Beatrice and Beatrice Benedick, but (because neither will admit it) nothing seems capable of bringing them together. Only the intrigues of a resentful prince force Benedick to prove his love for Beatrice – by killing his best friend.
