This event has now passed.
This online course will start with a virtual tour of the Globe Theatre, led by your Course Director, Joanne Howarth.
Delivered in four two-hour sessions between 6.00pm and 8.00pm from 22 – 25 September, this course offers a chance to explore Shakespeare’s King Lear, considering its performance on the stage it was written for. We will work together, online, on scenes and speeches with rehearsal tools, games and exercises to explore the potential of The Globe as a performance space, and what it teaches the actor about Shakespeare’s text.
Before the course, participants will need to read or re-read King Lear and be especially familiar with Act 2, scene 4 from line 184 and Act 4 scene 6. Please could you also select 2 speeches (Max 20 lines, any gender) from anywhere in the play, of which you will work on one through the week. This course is suitable for you if it’s your first Studio session, or if you are looking to extend your training with us.
You will be working with Joanne Howarth. Joanne was recruited to Shakespeare’s Globe by founder Sam Wanamaker where she has since worked regularly as an actor, director, practitioner and Higher Education consultant. She directed the pioneering Globe Education/Deutsche Bank productions from 2005 to 2008. Her acting credits for the Globe include Nell Gwynn and an international tour of Much Ado About Nothing.
