Playing the Globe: Hamlet six week course

This online course will start with a virtual tour of the Globe Theatre, led by your Course Director, Dickon Tyrrell.

These sessions will run every Wednesday from 30 September to 4 November from 6.00pm – 8.00pm. Participants will look at how Shakespeare’s language works; with an examination of the sonnets, solo speeches, soliloquies and scenes. We will investigate the key points of prose and verse, and how Shakespeare builds character through language.

Using the new Arden edition of Hamlet, attention will be given to unlocking the scaffolding within the text, which facilitates storytelling in the unique architecture of the Globe Theatre.

Before the course, participants will need to read or re-read Hamlet, and you will be sent a question about the play to consider before the course starts. This course is suitable for you if it’s your first Studio session, or if you are looking to extend your training with us.

You will be working with Dickon Tyrrell. Dickon has had an extensive career working as an actor and is a Higher Education Consultant for Shakespeare’s Globe. He has performed in over 15 productions at the Globe including The Knight of the Burning Pestle, Doctor Scroggy’s War, Julius Caesar, The Duchess of Malfi, Othello, Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn and most recently The Merry Wives of Windsor and Bartholomew Fair.

Your ticket is valid for one individual to join the online course on one device.

You cannot book this course unless you have registered with The Studio at Shakespeare’s Globe and the ticket must be booked by the individual who will be participating in the course.
