Romeo and Juliet Study Session (Ages 15+) 2020
This event has now passed.
My only love sprung from my only hate!
This dynamic three-hour course gives students aged 15+ the chance to delve into Romeo and Juliet to analyse Shakespeare’s use of language and stagecraft.
A violent street brawl between their rival families is the prelude to Romeo’s first encounter with Juliet. Despite this, and the fact that Juliet has been promised to another man in marriage, they fall in love. But any plans for their future happiness are cruelly destroyed by renewed violence between the two families – and while the adults remain almost comically preoccupied with their own affairs, among their children a hidden tragedy begins to unfold.
Designed for students across the world studying Shakespeare or English Literature, this session sees Globe practitioners and participants explore Shakespeare’s most famous love story, bringing it to life with active discussion and practical activities
Encouraging the development of an informed personal response to the play, underpinned by understanding the text’s relationship to the unique performance conditions of the Globe, this course is particularly suitable for GCSE and A-level Literature courses.
