LIVELY ACTION FAQS.
Any questions you might have about booking and attending a Lively Action workshop.
BOOKINGS
What is a Lively Action workshop? How can I book one?
Lively Action Workshops and Tours are our most popular offering for schools. They consist of a 30-minute guided tour of the Globe Theatre, followed by a 60-minute practical drama workshop on a Shakespeare play of your choice (if on the curriculum, we have capacity to deliver workshops on other Elizabethan and Jacobean plays as well). Both the tour and workshop are designed to explore the plays on a textual level, as well as to delve into characters, contexts, and themes.
To book a Lively Action Workshop and Tour, please complete this form.
Can you give me a quote for Lively Action workshop pricing?
Pricing for Lively Action workshops is dependent on your school type, as outlined above. Each workshop has a minimum fee equivalent to the cost of 20 student attendees.
All of our on-site Learning activities operate on a 1:10 teacher to student ratio. Teachers outside of this ratio must be paid for at the rate of a student ticket, unless they are 1:1 support for an access patron within your party, who go free.
When do Lively Action workshops run?
Workshops run on weekdays at 10:30, 11:30, and 12:30. For availability on specific dates, please complete the booking form. They consist of a 30-minute guided tour of the Globe Theatre, followed by a 60-minute practical drama workshop on a Shakespeare play of your choice.
Do you have any availability for [date]?
Because our availability is ever-changing, we are unable to provide availability for Lively Action workshops until we have received a booking form. Please fill in this form with all of the dates on which you would be available for a workshop, and we will endeavour to book you in accordingly. If we do not have availability on any of your proposed dates, we will get back in touch to discuss alternatives.
What play should we choose?
We are able to run workshops on any of Shakespeare’s plays. By request, we are also able to explore other Elizabethan and Jacobean texts. We are also able to run workshops on most of the plays currently showing in the Globe Theatre and the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.
If you’re looking for further guidance on which play to choose, we can recommend some of our more popular options: Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
To get the most out of your session, we recommend that groups choose one primary play to focus on.
What is a Learning Objective?
Learning Objectives help us tailor our workshop sessions to your learning aims. In this field, please provide us with a few words about what you’d like to gain from your session – for example, a particular scene you’d like to focus on, or a particular element of Shakespeare’s writing style.
What if our group has more than 35 people?
Our capacity per workshop on-site is 35 people per group (inclusive of students and adults). If you plan on bringing a group larger than this number, we will split your group accordingly and run multiple simultaneous workshops.
What if I want to bring additional chaperones on the tour?
Depending on our capacity, we may sometimes be able to accommodate additional adults during the tour portion of the visit. However, due to the additional demand this places on our practitioners, groups may be subject to a large tour fee.
Please note that the capacity of our workshop spaces is 35, and we are unable to exceed this capacity during the workshop component of your visit for health and safety reasons.
Can I book a Lively Action as a home education group?
We do offer Lively Action workshops for home education groups. However, please note that these workshops are designed by key stage, so may be best suited for students of similar ages. If you feel that this would be a good fit for your group, please fill in the booking form.
If you have a large range of ages and education levels within your group, or a large number of parents attending, you may be interested in our Family Events.
Can I book a Lively Action workshop in my school?
Yes, all of our onsite Learning activities are also available in-school. To book a session in your school, please complete the booking form.
Can I book tickets for a performance alongside a Lively Action workshop?
Yes! To do this, please use our Schools booking form.
LUNCH ROOMS
Can my group book a lunch room at the Globe?
Unfortunately, due to building works taking place at the Globe, are unable to offer lunch rooms onsite pre- or post- session. In good weather, we recommend using the benches along the river on Bankside, where groups often like to eat lunch. There is also a grassy area outside (about a 5-minute walk, in the direction of the Tate Modern) where groups can sit to have lunch.
If your group includes any access patrons, we may be able to reserve a lunchroom for your group (subject to availability on-site). Please let us know if this is the case at point of booking, and we will endeavour to accommodate your group.
TRANSPORTATION AND ARRIVAL AT THE GLOBE
Do you have parking available at the Globe?

ACCESS PROVISIONS
What is ‘access’ in relation to a Lively Action workshop?
By ‘access patrons,’ we mean young people who may require additional provisions in order to access activities at the Globe, e.g. those who have a physical disability, are wheelchair users, or have a SEND diagnosis such as ADHD or Autism. However, ‘access’ is not limited to these examples. If there is anything we can do to better accommodate your group at the Globe, please let us know on your booking form, and we will be in touch to discuss how we can make a visit more accessible to your group.
Do you have step-free access?
Yes, we are able to facilitate a visit to the Globe using step-free routes. If you have patrons in your group who require step-free access, please do indicate this on your booking form so that we can ensure that an appropriate rehearsal space is available for your group.
Do you have a quiet space onsite?
During the summer of 2025, onsite building works will impact our space availability at the Globe. However, by request, we will still endeavour to arrange a quiet space during your visit.
If a member of your party will require access to a quiet space during your visit, please let us know on your booking form or in subsequent communication. Our team will be in touch to discuss available options.
A quiet space in our rehearsal studios remains available upon request.
Do I need to pay to bring 1:1 support for students with access requirements?
All of our on-site Learning activities operate on a 1:10 teacher to student ratio. Teachers outside of this ratio must be paid for at the rate of a student ticket, unless they are 1:1 support for an access patron within your party, who go free.
