Johnny Flynn and Robert Macfarlane present a live performance of their stunning album, Lost in the Cedar Wood, in an evening created specifically for the unrivalled intimacy of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.
Created in lockdown 2020, the album bases itself loosely upon the world’s oldest written work of literature, The Epic of Gilgamesh. The stories and landscapes of the epic poem intertwine with those of lockdown-era Britain to form a work of beguiling beauty, at once ancient and urgent.
Flynn, lauded singer-songwriter and actor, and Macfarlane, internationally celebrated writer known for his explorations of nature, time, people and place, will join forces to give the album its first full live voicing: its beautiful music will be woven through with story-telling, drawing the audience on a 4000-year-journey from Mesopotamia through to our fragile present moment. This performance promises to be truly special.
We are See It Safely approved by Official London Theatre. This certifies that we are complying with the latest Government and industry guidelines to provide a Covid-secure environment for all our artists, staff, and visitors.
