Twelfth Night, or What You Will
Prepare to have your world turned upside down as Shakespeare’s dizzying tragicomedy, Twelfth Night, or What You Will, sweeps into the Globe Theatre in an intoxicating whirlwind of joy and heartbreak this summer.
Illyria is in the midst of a wild festival but amongst the excitement, not everyone wants – or is allowed – to indulge in the celebrations. The lovesick duke, mourning heiress and strait-laced steward to name a few.
Enter shipwrecked, grief-stricken Viola who must learn the rules of this new world – and the complex love tangle she’s thrust into. She soon finds that the lines between self-expression and excess, frivolity and frustration are thin.
In a world where emotions can be as changeable as the weather, will all of Illyria’s residents make it through in one piece?
Robin Belfield (Princess Essex, 2024) returns to the Globe, to unleash Shakespeare’s topsy-turvy tale of love, desire and freedom of expression.
