So, it’s officially happening. This week we welcome you back to our Globe Theatre for the first performances to happen in our venues since the Covid outbreak of 2020.

The below blog contains everything you need to know about your booking and your upcoming visit – including our onsite safety measures – to ensure you can enjoy your experience with us as safely and comfortably as possible.

Don’t worry, we will also send you everything you need to know direct to you via email ahead of your visit (check the inbox of the email address you used to book your e-tickets). Measures are subject to change, so make sure you refer to your email for the most up-to-date information, as we will contact you directly if there are any further updates.

1. Get your devices ready and also make sure we have your mobile number

You won’t receive paper tickets for the performance you’re attending – you will be given digital tickets. These will appear in the ‘My events’ section of your online account with Shakespeare’s Globe. You can show these digital tickets on a mobile device when you arrive.

We’ll also send them via text message to your mobile number on the morning of your event, so check we have the right details for you in your account with us.

2. Pre-order your snacks and drinks in advance

You can also use your online account to pre-order drinks and snacks in advance, as our on site bar service won’t be available before, during or after the performance. Whatever you order online will be available to collect on your way into the theatre.

3. Pre-book your dining with Swan

From 17 May indoor (as well as outdoor) dining will resume at Swan Bar & Restaurant – huzzah!

You can add a dining booking in your online account (in the ‘My events’ section).

4. Let us know if you’re unwell

We really hope to see you soon but understand that things can change very quickly.

If you or anyone in your party begins to feel unwell, develop any Covid-19 symptoms, or has been told to self-isolate before you’re due to visit us, please do not attend your booked performance. Contact our us on +44 (0)20 7401 9919 or email us to discuss your options.

5. Plan your journey

It might be your first time using public transport in a while, so try to plan your journey in advance, allow lots of extra time and try to travel when it may be quieter.

You can visit our page on getting here to find out more but also always head to TfL for the most recent travel updates for London.

In line with UK Government guidance, anyone over the age of 11 must wear a face covering.

6. Don’t forget your face coverings

Remember to bring face coverings for yourself and everyone in your party over the age of 11. You must wear these for the entire duration of your visit, unless exempt or whilst eating and drinking. Familiarise yourself with other Covid measures via our dedicated page.

7. Bring a small cushion if you like

Anyone who has visited us before will know that we usually have cushion hire. As we’re currently unable to offer this at the moment, you’re welcome to bring your own small cushions to give your seats that extra little padding. But don’t forget – no large bags or items, in line with our usual security policy.

8. Come to the correct arrival location, at the correct time

Prior to your visit, we will email you letting you know where and when to arrive. There will be two separate arrival locations (one on Bankside, and one on New Globe Walk – they are round the corner from one another). Entry times are also staggered, so you will be emailed a specific time to arrive. Download map.

There will be social distancing markers in place to help ensure you remain distanced from the other audience members.

Our postcode is SE1 9DT. We have two entrances for performances and you’ll be asked to arrive at one or the other.

When you arrive:

  • Our Welcome Team will greet you
  • They will check your digital tickets
  • They will help you check in using the NHS Covid- 19 Test and Trace app (or take your contact details for contact tracing purposes)
  • There will be a contact-free temperature check for everyone in your party
  • You will be able to collect your pre-ordered items on route to your seats

9. Be aware of new changes

If you’ve watched a performance at the Globe Theatre before you may notice a small number of changes this time around.

Firstly, you’ll see enhanced cleaning, hand sanitiser stations, one-way systems and directional signage.

Secondly, all of our performances this season are running without an interval and we have an open door policy. This means that you can pop in and out of the show whenever you like, to use the toilets at your convenience.

10. Prepare for the weather!

We are an open-air theatre – we have no roof. But we do have English weather… so bring your coats and wrap up warm. No umbrellas allowed, sadly.

And one last sneaky eleventh (important) tip…

11. Enjoy your visit and know that we are here to support you throughout your time with us
