Children as storytellers
Suitable for years 1 – 4
HELP SUPPORT OUR BELOVED THEATRE.
We recently temporarily closed our doors to the public until further notice.
As a charity that receives no regular government subsidy, we desperately need your support, more than ever before.
Children as Storytellers sees the Globe support primary school teachers to incorporate drama techniques into their classroom practice. Teachers take part in professional development led by Globe Education Practitioners, who then work alongside teachers in their classrooms, using dramatic storytelling techniques to teach two Shakespeare plays.
For younger children, stories told or heard can help them understand the world in which they live and allow them to transmit that understanding to others. Talk is a rehearsal for writing, and first-hand situations, experienced through drama and role-play approaches, provide young children with the ideas and language they need for writing. Using Shakespeare’s stories and the Globe Theatre as a stimulus to enhance pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, cultural development and understanding of the world, Children as Storytellers will develop pupils’ responses to and understanding of stories and their ability to share that knowledge. It will also develop pupils’ core speaking, listening, communication, language, drama and expressive arts skills through active participation, play and performance.
