English Literature: A level study day

Key activities

Tour: A 30-minute introductory tour of the Globe theatre – for sessions that take place online or in-school, this will be done virtually.

Lecture: A 60-minute interactive lecture on the performance history of the play at Shakespeare’s Globe, using exclusive material from our archives to demonstrate different ways in which key scenes have been interpreted over time, and appreciate how production choices can illuminate various elements of the play. This interactive lecture will be led by a Globe Education Practitioner with experience of performing or directing work on the Globe stage.

Workshop: A 90-minute practical workshop exploring your choice of play in relation to the playhouse for which it was written. This will involve a range of exercises, which are designed to explore the text at word level, as well as key characters and themes.

Available texts

Study days using exclusive archival material are available on the following plays:

  • Hamlet
  • Othello
  • King Lear
  • The Taming of the Shrew
  • The Winter’s Tale

Please note that the Study Day lectures using archival material are only possible for us to deliver on site at Shakespeare’s Globe due to copyright legislation. Study Days delivered in your school or online will not use archival material and will follow a different format.

If you would like a study day on a play not listed above, including those by other Renaissance playwrights such as Marlowe and Webster, please Contact Us
